weight lossRunning is good, I run 3 times a week and I love / hate (long story) doing it as it does help your overal stamina and just general wellbeing.

However if you want to lose weight, and in a short timeframe, then running a half marathon might not get you the results you want. You should look into increasing your cardio and actually do a cardio workout instead of running for your life.

Reason number 1:

A good cardio workout will push you a lot harder than running a distance. Short sprints and bursts of energy workouts will increase your heart rate a lot faster and better than running a 5km run.

Reason number 2:

Doing these cardio workouts, not just sprints but all sort of jump exercices, will give you a full body workout which is more intense than running alone. Therefore you are able to train a lot more body segments which helps you burn calories and fat.

Reason number 3:

Running a long distance is great for training your endurance. You will be able to run at a pace for a long time but if you would start with short sprints and rests you will find out that you will a lot more worn out after your run. Even if you do the same distance.

So for a good workout you should look into a HIIT. High-intensity interval training. Example: alternate 60sec jogging with 30sec sprints for 15mins. Pros & cons of HIIT cardio:

  • More Efficient. Burns more fat and increases your cardiovascular fitness more than long duration cardio does.
  • More Fun, Less Time-Consuming. Takes only 15-20mins and is much more fun than 30-45mins long duration cardio.
  • More Difficult. HIIT will make you puke if you’re a beginner with zero endurance. HIIT can also mess with your recovery.
